Hindustan Times Spotlights Karmic Beauty on Skin Longevity and Simpler Skincare Routines

“Our consumer is not under-informed. She is over-equipped and under-guided.”

That’s how we described today’s beauty consumer in our recent conversation with Hindustan Times. She knows her retinol from her peptides, reads ingredient lists and follows the latest skincare conversations. Yet, with so much information coming at her, knowing what actually deserves a place in her routine is another matter.

In an exclusive interaction with Hindustan Times Shop Now, our co-founders, Dr. Vaibhav Mittal and Komal Mittal, spoke to Shweta Pandey about the changing Indian beauty consumer, the thinking behind product formulation and why the industry needs to look beyond individual ingredients and quick fixes.

From Ingredient Literacy to Formulation Literacy

Knowing an ingredient is one thing. Understanding how it works in a finished formulation is another.

In the interview with Shweta Pandey, we discussed how the beauty conversation often centres on the presence of a particular active, while questions around its concentration, delivery, stability and compatibility with other ingredients receive less attention. An ingredient list can tell you what a product contains but it cannot tell you the whole story of how that formulation has been developed.

As consumers become more familiar with skincare science, we believe the next step is to look beyond ingredient names and understand what makes a formulation work.

Simpler Routines, Without Compromising on Science

The conversation also explored the growing preference for simpler & more targeted skincare routines. Social media has made information about actives more accessible but layering products without understanding how they interact can leave consumers confused about what their skin actually needs.

Our perspective is straightforward. Simplifying a routine should mean removing unnecessary steps, not removing the science. Equally, putting multiple functions into a single product is not automatically the answer. Every formulation still needs to serve its intended purpose.

Longevity > Instant Results

From viral ingredients to instant-glow treatments, beauty trends can shape what consumers try and what brands feel compelled to launch. We spoke about the importance of distinguishing genuine consumer feedback from the pressure to follow every new trend.

We also shared our concerns around harsh exfoliating treatments that promise immediate results without giving enough consideration to the skin barrier. For us, the more useful question is not simply how skin looks immediately after a treatment but how well it holds up afterwards.

These are some of the questions shaping the wider conversation around Skin Longevity and the role that formulation choices play in supporting skin and hair health over time.
